FAQ
Common Questions
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) means you supply the formula and the Korean manufacturer produces it under your brand name. You own the formula IP. OEM gives you full product differentiation and exclusivity.
With ODM (Original Design Manufacturer), the manufacturer's R&D team develops the formula to your brief. You specify the product type, actives, and target market — they develop it, you approve and brand it. ODM is faster and lower-cost to start than OEM, and is the most common path for brands entering Korean manufacturing.
White label is a fully standardized existing product — you apply your label as-is, no changes. Private label allows minor customization: fragrance selection, color adjustments, or packaging changes, on an existing base formula. Both are faster and lower-MOQ than custom ODM formulation.
MOQs depend on the manufacturer tier and product type. Private label cosmetics: 500–2,000 units. Custom ODM cosmetics: 1,000–5,000 units. Supplements (drink ampoules, capsules): 3,000–10,000 units. Tier 1 manufacturers (Cosmax, Kolmar) require 5,000–10,000+ units. Most emerging brands start with mid-size Korean manufacturers at 1,000–3,000 unit MOQs.
Private label (existing formula): 6–10 weeks from order confirmation. Custom ODM (new formula development): 16–24 weeks, including formulation, stability testing, packaging, and production. Plan for the longer estimate — the most common delays are sampling revision rounds and packaging decisions.
Korea ranks #3 globally in cosmetics exports ($10.2B in 2024) and is the global benchmark for skincare formulation quality, texture innovation, and regulatory compliance. Korean manufacturers are MFDS-registered, ISO 22716 certified, and have proven export infrastructure for the US, EU, UK, and Asian markets. The same factories producing leading K-beauty brands are accessible to international brands at 1,000+ unit MOQs.
